TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson on Wednesday will be at MacDill Air Force Base to meet with families about concerns of mold and animal infestations in base housing.
Her visit follows a face-to-face meeting Tuesday with U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis.
The Air Force currently is conducting a 100-percent review of all housing after families have come forward claiming issues with mold, lead and animal infestations.
Some say their families have developed health problems.
A spokesperson for the congressman says he's encouraged by steps the Air Force is taking to address concerns in housing on MacDill Air Force Base.
That includes developing a tenant bill of rights to give service members the same protections civilians have when renting. He says the Air Force also is looking at all contracts to figure out how to hold private companies accountable.
Bilirakis plans to work alongside the Air Force to ensure that military families don't go through issues like this again.
