TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis will sit down with the Secretary of the Air Force, Heather Wilson, next week to talk about concerns with housing on MacDill Air Force Base.
A spokesperson for the congressman says Bilirakis toured housing at MacDill Thursday after families came forward about mold and infestations.
Some say they’ve dealt with health problems after living on base. Right now, the Air Force is conducting a full review of housing on all of its bases.
The review specifically addresses concerns for mold, lead and animal infestations. Each wing commander has until March 1 to submit their findings in a report to the Air Force.
Rep. Bilirakis will also talk with the secretary about options for Air Force families, including housing pay.
Airmen who choose to live on base have their “rent” taken out of each paycheck and cannot withhold payments if there are concerns.
An exact date and time has not been set for the meeting between Rep. Bilirakis and the Secretary of the Air Force.
